Ferenc Gyurcsány resigns from all posts and withdraws from public life

Ferenc Gyurcsány is resigning from all his positions in the Democratic Coalition party and public life, as well as ending his marriage with Klára Dobrev. The decision was made to counter right-wing attempts to smear Gyurcsány's reputation. Dobrev will run for the party presidency, and the party plans to elect a new president in the coming weeks.

At the meeting of the Hungarian Parliament's Justice Committee, the governing Fidesz-KDNP majority voted against all proposals by the opposition party, Democratic Coalition (DK), including those related to early elections and protecting victims of domestic violence. The government, however, expressed commitment to declaring zero tolerance on violence against women and initiating comprehensive reforms to address the issue.
